Dark Skies: The Declassified Complete Series DVD Alien Life essay contest brought to you from The Church Of Mabus radio show. All contestants must write up a minimum of two pages regarding Alien life. I've always had a parabnormal life.. even as a child weird things used to happen around the house constantly. My mum's wyrd too.... I saw my first ufo with her bringing in the washing in 1982...The same year I found a set of three perfect circles in a corn field at the end of our street... Then i read all her Eric Von Daniken books, her lost civilisation books and then battered her head with all her own David Bowie and Black Sabbath LPs and forgot about the whole thingand got on with the job of being an obnoxious teenager... I was very adept.

Fast forward to 1997... A last minute weekend away in Wales turns into something that reads like a bad sci-fi movie... The McPhearson tape springs to mind... only this was awesome as well as terrifying... and we're still here.... and unlike the McPhearson tape, this was really really real. I don't actually expect anyone to believe me... I wouldn't have believed it either if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

After keeping mum about it and not so quietly going mental... a spiral of drink, drugs eating disorders, distractions, suicide attempts and general insanity gone mental and a couple of months on a psychiatric ward i realized it was the world that was crazy not me and I went home, bought a computer and told someone.

Since then I've stuck my nose in just about every dark place I can find... some people say i'm scary... I don't think so, I'm just not afraid. There's not much left to scare you when you realize monsters are real because you've seen them with your own eyes...

This life we live.... It's beyond precious.. It's a miracle.. I brought four children into this world, I need to know what I've gotten them into and prepare them for the battle to put things right if it's not too late and to prepare them if it is. We live in a societal structure that's a strange Orwellion/Roswellion hybrid and this is Pharmageddon people... Prepare to be standardized people. Weapons in space, standardization of global military forces and joint operations with the U.S and Standardized police forces for the Eurpopean Union and big brother isn't only watching... Big brother is kicking seven sorts of fecundity from everyone who dares to have an independant thought and wants a better way... No longer am I classed as a subversive element, I'm a domestic extremist....(WHOOP!) an internal terrorist according to my local constabulary anyhoo... Why? Because I want to sway opinion and seek change without using the normal democratic process... Which is in itself a contradiction in terms but It's the way of the UK of A.... always on the side of the biggest bully in the playground while bolstering links with the bullies from the school next door...

The earth is the only home we have and it's about time everyone grew some nuts, got off their arses and did something to stop the mechanoidal demonocracy from killing us and threatening our life support system... They've forgotten that we are actually contained within our enviroment, NOT in control of it. I used to be a woman on the edge.. then I fell over it, lost my mind and came to my senses... I'd recommend it to everyone.

American audiences have fallen under the spell of actor Hugh Laurie in his portrayal of the misanthropic physician Gregory House on Fox’s “House M.D.”, but fans of Mr. Laurie’s work will surely remember one of his memorable roles as an unnamed, uncredited scientist in the music video “Experiment IV” by the incomparable Kate Bush. The 1985 video, which is closer to a short subject film in its intensity, has Laurie falling prey to a winged humanoid monstrosity – a product of an experiment in sound gone awry – and the viewer only sees the terrified scientist’s reaction to the nightmarish entity, and the ultimate lapse into a catatonic state. The fear projected by the actor in that silent scene is gripping and stays with the viewer long after the video is over.

It is precisely this fear that is so well described in the Mexican reported just last week, when “El Heraldo de Chihuahua” published the story of a young man who had been terrified by a vast, winged humanoid form that kept pace with his Jeep even as he tried to outrun it (Mexico: Panic Over "Humanoid" in Chihuahua – March 27, 2009 – www.inexplicata.blogspot.com) We need only watch Hugh Laurie’s performance as the terrified scientist to imagine the expression on the student’s face as he was confronted by the apparition. An older person would probably have succumbed to a massive heart attack, which is precisely what happened to a Puerto Rican sugarcane cutter in 1995, when giant winged creatures were reported on the island, harbingers to the “Chupacabras” manifestations later that same year.

Puerto Rico: Unwanted Passenger or Trick of the Light?

Researchers of the paranormal have found, over the years, that sometimes the paranormal is researching *them* -- was INEXPLICATA contributor José A. Martínez on the recieving end of one such probe from the unknown?

This morning (04.16.09) José sent us a message and a highly intriguing photograph. While investigating the recent spate of UFO activity in southwestern Puerto Rico, accompanied by Enfoque TV’s Luiseppi Quiñones, the latter took a photo of the rear of José’s car as a test shot. Later, when Quiñones uploaded the digital file to a new program that would keep images from becoming distorted, he chose the one depicting the rear of the auto as a test image. When he magnified it on the computer, he noticed something unusual looking back at him through the rear window. Reportedly, Quiñones remarked to his wife that “he didn’t think one of José’s daughters had come along for the investigation” and that he was otherwise alone. He phoned Martinez to advise him of this condition, and sent him the JPEG. José has very kindly shared this photo file with us and something is indeed visible in the window. A ghost? A hybrid ET? Merely a subtle play of lights and shadow on tempered glass? You be the judge.

Mexico: Hey, Hey We're the Squirrel Monkeys

Alejandro Franz is the director of Mexico's ALCIONE research organization and a veteran airliner pilot with Mexicana de Aviación, with a number of impressive UFO sightings from the flight deck (including one over the Altar Desert which was described in SAMIZDAT newsletter of the '90s). Capt. Franz's organization has shared its the images of the "alien baby" with the rest of the UFO community along with the following text:

"The veterinarian [who researched the case] said that the animal was submerged in liquid to cure its hide; the proprietor of the ranch says the animal swallowed a poisoned rat. Why can't they get their lies straight? [This] is history-making physical evidence. The story of a "strange being" that a simple analysis - within the reach of any primary school child doing a 30 minute web search - would have confirmed as the carcass of a "squirrel monkey" caught in a trap [...] This is another deception brought to you by "intelligent television"

In the strange and convoluted Aughts, it's entirely possible that believers will still see in these bones the remains of a mission specialist from Epsilon Eridani, deserted by his fellow crewmembers when he fell into one of the cruel snares set by bestial homo sapiens. One must admit, though, that it's a good story -- better than anything on TV right now.

1997: Puerto Rico's "Alien Foetus"

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Hence, given the excitement of a claims of an "alien baby" on the Internet, I'm taking the liberty of reprinting the full text of the "alien foetus" story that we ran in SAMZIDAT, Inexplicata's forerunner, in September 1997:

"In mid-September of this year, the Internet crackled with the astounding piece of information that an alien foetus contained in a small bottle had been found on the body of a man shot under mysterious circumstances in San Juan, P.R.. According to reports received from Lucy Plá of the Puerto Rican Research Group and Federico Alvarez of UFOSCIPR, the television news departments of two major channels (the NBC and CBS affiliates, respectively) kept the entire island on tenterhooks for 48 hours while deciding if a genuine extraterrestrial corpse had finally been found on the island. The result was predictable: a news conference was held in which each journalist present showed a tiny "keychain" made up of a vial containing what appears to be a small, shriveled Grey alien.

A small test tube containing a foetus described by some who saw it as being a highly unusual creature -- leading many to believe that it may be an extraterrestrial or even a "chupacabras"-- was found Wednesday (September 18) in Santurce's La Colectora section. The tantalizing "foetus" turned out to be made of plastic.

"The murder of Fred Acevedo Martínez, 31, is the second nonresident death to occur in Santurce this month. Fred, who lived in VIllas de Río Grande and his family at Luquillo's Sandy Hills Condominium, was seen at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday by patrolmen from the Santurce Headquarters who drove down San Rafael Street.

v"The young man was behind the wheel of a 1981 Honda Accord, parked by a nameless eatery at the corner of Progreso alley, close to the now-vanished Corona brewery. A loud report was heard ten minutes later. A bullet had hit Fred in the left clavicle. He started the car immediately and promply crashed into two junked vehicles which had been abandoned in Progreso alley.

The following is a fragment from an article I wrote for Timothy Green Beckley’s “UFO UNIVERSE” in the late 1990s on the subject of alleged alien-human hybrids. The information came from the work of distinguished Mexican researcher Luis Ramírez Reyes, lecturer and author of major works on his country's UFO/paranormal phenomena:

“In early 1993, an anonymous young woman was driving between Mexico City and Poza Rica, Veracruz, as part of her regular route as cosmetics saleswoman. Upon reaching the Teotihuacán archaeological site, she became aware of an object she thought to be a UFO in the clear blue skies.

“The next thing she new, she had arrived at her destination. Perplexed and afraid, she glanced repeatedly at her wristwatch and noticed that it indicated the very same time at which she'd left Mexico City and was driving along the expressway that runs past the Teotihuacán pyramids. Her pulse racing, she pulled into an alleyway in Poza Rica to steady herself. A passerby informed her that the time was now 2:00 pm -- three hours later than the time on her wristwatch. The mechanics of how she had been able to traverse the 300-kilometer distance without being aware of it eluded her completely.

“She conducted her business transactions nervously, haunted by the experience she had undergone. In the weeks that followed her "missing time" experience, the cosmetics saleswoman began to experience lassitude and nausea to the extent that she went to see a doctor. The physician dutifully informed her that she was pregnant -- a statement that astonished her, since she was still a virgin and did not even have a boyfriend.

“Seven months later, at a private clinic whose name and location [was kept confidential by the researcher], she gave birth to a strange creature having double-membraned eyes, thick frog-like lips, joined fingers and hard, shell-like features on its skin which were similar to a tortoise's shell. Panic spread among the delivery room doctors and nurses, and only stern admonitions from the clinic's director kept the story from circulating any further.

“The bizarre newborn remained inside an incubator for three weeks after its birth in September 1993. A physician's report indicated that the "baby" would not drink any formula or dairy products, but appeared to crave herbs. Other peculiarities included its inability to withstand light, preferring "infrared light sources" and the development of scales along its spine.

“Photos of the creature were shown to an analyst who has also requested anonymity. His expert opinion was that the newborn belonged to a "saurian or reptilian species" of some sort. The researcher's sources claim that the mother is raising her "child" alone, and that the latter is growing and developing into a full grown amphibian reptile "horrible to behold within our notions of beauty."

“Is this reptilian infant merely a throwback to the very beginnings of the evolutionary trail? A human child deformed by unknown radiation or toxicity? Or can we actually believe that it is the offspring of a human mother and a clearly non-human father during a "missing time" experience?

Far from being alien, the infant in question suffered from the disorder known as
icthyosis (harlequin icthyosis, to be specific). The excitement that such stories can produce in believers in the likelihood of extraterrestrial visitors to our corner of the universe is understandable, but when evidence is presented, they are often misidentifications of very human genetic disorders. At times, photos of these cases have been used to fuel media interest in the subject or to further personal agendas. Reader beware.

De la Garma, Argentina – Four schoolteachers from Neuquén reported having seen an alleged UFO yesterday as they headed to a school in the De la Garma region.

“We started to see an orange half-moon that turned into a huge sphere, and we took some photos of it with our cellphones,” said María Inés Martos, the principal of the local school, in a radio interview with Radio LU24.

According to Martos, the UFO sighting took place at around 7:30 before it “vanished swiftly into the horizon”.

According to the diariodenecochea.com website, the event occurred as the instructors headed to the De la Garma school. At that time, the stopped at Monte Chueco to look at the inexplicable phenomenon and take pictures of the object.

Chile: A 1908 Chupacabras Case?

This older information – much like the 1947 cases we have been presenting this month – hails from the archives of the late Luis Altamirano, one of Chile’s most respected UFO/Fortean researchers. Raul Núñez of the IIEE currently has the files under his custody and is sharing some of its most interesting contents with readers around the world. The name of the original author of the article is given as Gonzalo Tapia Diaz.

The legend of the “vampires of Chañaral Alto” emerged that year (1908) in a small community located in the heart of Combarbalá (Chile’s 4th region).

On the night of March 9th, over twenty goats were found slain in bizarre circumstances on the premises of livestock producer Rufino Malebrán. Upon examining their carcasses, he reached the chilling conclusion that the animals had been drained of their blood. And that was just the start. Two days later, a similar attack occurred, but this time at Esteban Contreras’ ranch. Bovines and horses alike were killed in identically strange circumstances.

The chronicles say that an outsider -- Mañungo “el Pirquinero” (the Propector) newly arrived from the mining country of northern Chile – took it upon himself to unravel the mystery, keep a nocturnal watch over the ranches, hoping to come upon the culprit or culprits. Over four months, this unknown quantity had exterminated hundreds of goats, sheep, cows, horses and poultry. It was then that someone claimed to have seen, at a distance, a crag near Chañaral Alto where huge vampire bats slept – a kind of truly giant bat. Armed with this bit of information, Mañungo headed toward the indicated location. It was there – at noon in July 1908 – that he found a cavern, and learned that everything that had been said about this creature was true.

But it remained to be seen if these natural creatures were indeed responsible for the slayings. Therefore, the prospector planned a new course of action, again hoping to catch them at work.

And it was on one of these many evenings when, according to popular belief, the outsider learned the truth. But it is said that all his efforts were in vain, as his body was found the next day – lifeless and bearing two puncture marks, through which what little blood that remained in his body trickled out.

Old-timers conveyed the legend to subsequent generations, who forgot it until stories of the Chupacabras, or the giant vampires, became news again, returning to commit their deeds with the same vigor and intensity that they did in a forgotten area of the 4th region in 1908

Argentina: “Invisible” UFO Photographed Over La Pampa

On Saturday, June 20, 2009, a team from the Centro de Estudios UFO (CEUFO) consisting of Lili Moronta, Fabian Romano and Quique Mario surveyed an area known as “El Durazno” some 95 kilometers soutwest of the city fo Santa Rosa, in an area where the wilderness and the first ridges that the locals call “cerros” can be found, some 350 meters above sea level.

The survey took place along Route 14 and began shortly after 10:00 at the “La Araña” wilderness. The group took photographs of the area and chatted with local residents about a phenomenon that is not the least bit strange to them. Stories of “lights” and strange vehicles seen even in broad daylight are everyday occurences.

Shortly after noon, when the team ascended “Cerro Cortado”, taking photos with digital cameras of the latest technology, they noticed nothing strange while capturing the landscape in several directions.

At night, upon inspecting the first images, a photo caught their attention (displayed above) and which will be subjected to specialists for analysis. While Fabian Romano inspected the layout of the hill, Quique Mario took a photo in which a strange object can be seen flying under the cloudiness that dominated the region.

Mr. Ramón Alarcón Quintero reported the sighting of 7 tubular objects over Mexico City. He saw them while driving back from a shopping center in Tlatelolco. He then phoned his daughter Nadia, 16, and asked her to record the event. This occurred on June 14, 2009

How did you come to notice the objects?

That morning I was on my way back from Mega Comercial Mexicana in Tlatelolco and in the vicinity of the Convention Center, I looked up and noticed two orange, elongated objects. One was twisting spectacularly (like an earthworm). I got off the sidewalk to have a better visual angle and managed to see five more objects, but whitish in color. Then I phoned my daughter to ask her to record them. The time was 8:30 a.m.

What direction were they flying in?

North by northwest

What district do you live in?

San Simón Tolnáhuac

What do you do for a living?

I’m an accountant

Were there any celebrations on that date?

None. Besides, it was very early – 8:30 a.m. (daylight savings time)

Could the objects have been garlands of balloons?

I don’t think so. They were too big, measuring about 100 meters long. Furthermore, as I indicated earlier, they contorted in a spectacular manner. I saw them shrink and form triangles with straight angles. I don’t think balloons are able to do that.

What impressed you the most about them?

The fact that they traveled in a group, and the maneuvers they made.

What do you think they could be?

Biological entities that live in the stratosphere and are affected by exceptionally powerful solar activity, causing them to descend and seek protection.

What did your daughter remark?

That they looked like worms courting.

Would you like to add something?

Yes. I had seen this phenomenon earlier, in 2005. At that time there were only two, heading from Azcapotzalco to Tlatelolco, also in the morning at 9:00 a.m.

Residents of Xochitepec were treated to the sight of a "ball of fire" over Avenida Aeropuerto in the Miguel Hidalgo section of town. The witnesses fixed their eyes on a brilliant object in the sky for five minutes, before the sighting ended in a lightning-like flash and disappeared.

The unidentified object's presence drew the attention of many: some took out their camcorders, others photographed the "ball of fire" that seemed to fall very slowly from the heavens under clear skies.

Some claimed having heard a buzzing sound, stating unequivocally that it was not an airplane or anything known. Furthermore, its descent was slow and perpendicular. Several minutes into the sighting, people were shocked to see the object fire a bright light, resembling a beam or a bolt of lightning.

After this, the object commenced its slow ascent until it vanished from sight.
Whatever it was, it certainly captivated the locals. Some were astonished and others frightened; there were even those who spoke of the object as "an ill omen" signaling the arrival of plagues and diseases. They do not think that it was a meteorite, as these fall in seconds and are high in the sky -- but this object was at the same height as the clouds, of which there were none at the time.

The spectacle took place at 22:15 hours on Thursday, July 23 2009. The photos taken by a local resident were forwarded to this newsroom and are published here for everyone to draw their own conclusions.

A group of six adults and a small child watched in amazement as the bright lights passed overhead in the direction of Lichfield.Stunned 62-year-old Michael Bardsley, from Trevithick Close, said he had just returned from a night out (and had not been drinking). He was getting out of his car on the drive with four family members when his wife spotted a bright light in the sky and said: “Look at that plane.”“That’s not a plane,” he replied.There were seven of the craft about 100 metres apart at plane height, coming from the direction of Chase Terrace, Michael said.He said the underside of the UFOs were like the underbelly of a jellyfish in appearance. “I’ve seen films with jellyfish in the water,” Michael said. “The UFOs were really round underneath with something in the middle.”Two neighbours from across the road watched the spectacle with the family. Michael managed to catch the bright lights on his phone camera, but the pictures do not show the craft in detail.“We could not understand what they were,” Michael told The Post. “We couldn’t hear any engines. Robot teacher has human touch

The world's first robot teacher proved a hit with pupils on her first day at a Japanese primary school.

One pupil described Saya as "pretty" another said that she was a bit "scary but fun" while another said that he "couldn't believe he was getting taught by a robot".

First, she called the name of each child before asking the pupils to carry out tasks from a text book for the pilot project in Kudan Primary School, next to Tokyo University.

Professor Hiroshi Kobayashi, of Tokyo's University of Science, who has been developing the robot for 15 years, said: "The children were not fazed by Saya at all.

"They don't see her as a humanoid but human. They were very happy and surprised when she was able to call their names. They treated Saya like a real teacher."

Saya's steel skull is covered with fine latex cast from a female university student. Underneath, a system of 18 motors works like muscles to give her facial expressions including surprise, fear, disgust, anger, happiness and sadness.

The robot is able to talk, potentially in any language, move her head and respond to questions. She currently speaks around 300 phrases and has a vocabulary of 700 words and is programmed to respond to words and questions.

It is planned that the first robot teachers will be used in several classrooms where they will be operated by 'controller' teachers operating from a control centre.

Each teacher robot has a price tag up to £25,000. They are claimed to be the first economically viable robot and aim to make back their money in a couple of years.

"The aim is to develop something that is useful to society and humans in daily life. The robot teacher is the perfect application for a robot," added Professor Kobayashi.

Did Several Moons Once Orbit Earth? A Galaxy Insight

The history of planet Earth is a fascinating story, involving catastrophic collisions with other small planets and a veritable plethora of asteroid impacts. The prevailing theory about the formation of the moon is called the giant impact hypothesis: the theory goes that a Mars-sized object, known as Theia, crashed in to the young Earth. What was left was Earth, and its moon.

A new computer model suggests, however, that the Moon may not have been the only reminder of that big collision. Jack J. Lissauera of the Space Science and Astrobiology Division, NASA Ames Research Center, and John E. Chambers of the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism, Carnegie Institution of Washington, have suggested that moonlets called Trojans may have been left behind in the collision.

"The giant impact that likely led to the formation of the Moon launched a lot of material into Earth orbit, and some could well have been caught in the Langrangian points," -points in space where the gravity between two objects cancels the other out, said says study team member Lissauer. Their theory places small moonlets, or Trojans, in Earth’s orbit, for up to 100 million years.

Over time, gravitational tugs from other planets would have eventually altered Earth’s orbit, even if it was only slightly. Thus, the Langrangian points would have altered, leaving the Trojans once again susceptible to gravity. From there, they could be anywhere by now, or destroyed entirely.

"The perturbations from the other planets are very, very tiny," said Lissauer. But they change the shape of Earth's orbit, which subsequently changes the effect that the Sun's gravity has on the moons, that "...is what ultimately destabilizes the Trojans."

A separate yet similar model created by Matija Cuk, an astrophysicist at the University of British Columbia in Canada has suggested that smaller, asteroid sized objects, only a few tens of kilometers in width, could have lasted longest in those stationary positions. She believes that they could have lasted a lot longer too, up to a billion years or more.

Pentagon’s Black Budget Grows to More Than $50 Billion

The Pentagon wants to spend just over $50 billion on classified programs next year, newly-released Defense Department budget documents reveal. “That’s the largest-ever sum,” according to Aviation Week’s Bill Sweetman, alongtime black-budget seer — a three percent increase over last year’s total.

It makes the Pentagon’s secret operations, including the intelligence budgets nested inside, “roughly equal in magnitude to the entire defense budgets of the UK, France or Japan,” Sweetman adds. All in all, about seven and a half percent of the Defense Department’s total spending is now classified.

Black-world weapons-buying “remains dominated by the single line item,” according to Sweetman. (You can find it under the Air Force’s “other procurement” section, on page F-21here.) “This year’s number stands just above $16 billion. In inflation-adjusted terms, that’s 240 per cent more than it was ten years ago.”

Many of the secret budgets still remain clandestine, however. In the research budget, the line item for a “Special Program”of the super-secret National Security Agency is a string of zeros. Same goes for an NSA “Cyber Security Initiative” kitty. And don’t even ask about NSA’s “Intelligence Support to Information Operations” account. That’s a blank slate, too.

Some other fun facts, buried in the Pentagon’s just-released budget docs:

Money for “Directed Energy Technology” — real-life ray gun research — jumps from $62.7 million last year to $105.7 million in 2010.
Cash for “Prompt Global Strike Capability Development” — weapons that can hit anywhere on the planet, in just a few hours — jumps from $74.1 million to $166.9 million.
The high-flying Global Hawk drones get an an extra $486.8 million.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense is pushing $75 million in new alt-fuel and alt-power projects — from “Landfill Gas Energy Capture” to a “Tactical, Deployable Micro-Grid.”
The Maui Space Surveillance System gets a major downgrade, from $36.3 million to a mere $5.8 million. Aloha, space-watchers!

UPDATE:CQ’s Tim Starks reports that “the budget would also allocate an unspecified amount to the new ‘Imagery Satellite Way Ahead‘ program, a joint effort between the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Defense designed to revamp the nation’s constellation of spy satellites.”

The mostly classified plan would include new, redesigned “electro-optical” satellites, which collect data from across the electromagnetic spectrum, as well as the expanded use of commercial satellite imagery. At first glance it looks like a rocky desert - but this image of the Mars landscape has got space-gazers talking.

Internet forums are full of chatter about the picture, taken by a panoramic NASA camera known as Spirit.

One alien-spotter speculated: "The skull is 15 cm with binocular eyes 5 cm apart. The cranial capacity is approximately 1400 cc.

"There appears to be a narrow pointed small mouth, so this creature most likely is a carnivore."

Another joked: "The coronal ridge shows ample structure to support the musculature of antennae, although none are visible in this view.

"The nose area is broad and blunted as you would expect to see in a cold and windy landscape. Is he decapitated or is he buried up to his neck?"

Previous images of a skull spotted on Mars in 2006 were believed to have been the result of tampering.

The famous Face on Mars, snapped by the Viking 1 spacecraft in 1976, which showed the shadowy likeness of a human face was late, was found to be a trick of the light when the area was re-photographed in 1998.

Mr. Stoker, 49, is a great-grand-nephew of Bram Stoker, the Irish author who introduced the world to Dracula in 1897.

Dacre has graciously accepted the role as President after conversations with his friend Mike McCarthy ( Festival Director).

Dacre says:
"That he is thrilled and honoured to be associated with the Film Festival and is looking forward to seeing Whitby and visiting the spiritual home of Dracula and did not think twice after speaking with Mike about the long term plans and direction of the Bram Stoker International Film Festival"

Dacre is continuing the Stoker literary legacy with Dracula: The Un-Dead, the original title for Dracula before an editor changed it. The novel, which will be launched Globally in October 2009, will coincide with the Film Festival. The story draws on excised characters, existing character back-stories and plot threads that were cut from the original Dracula novel, which has never been out of print since it was first published in 1897.

Dracula: The Un-Dead has been co-written with New York based screenwriter Mr Ian Holt.

Dacre Stoker grew up in Canada. In 1979, while in college, he picked up Dracula for the first time.

"I was surprised that this old story was a 'page turner' and fairly fast-paced," he said.

He wrote a paper about his great-grand-uncle and his possible motivations for writing the novel.

"I had seen so many film versions of Dracula and very few had any resemblance to Bram's original novel. ... I found it really sad that all the trash Hollywood had put out had really sullied Bram's and the family's literary legacy," he said.

Several years ago, Mr. Stoker met Mr. Holt through a mutual friend.

"Ian's story ideas for a sequel to Bram's work really sparked a lot of those old feelings I had when I did my college paper. Ian and I decided to work together to re-establish the Stoker lineage ... by resurrecting Bram's original themes and characters," he said.

Mr. Holt, 36, has been fascinated with Dracula since he was a child.

His quest to know Dracula has taken him to Transylvania, to sleep in the ruins of the castle and stand at the spot where Vlad the Impaler, the real-life inspiration for Dracula, would have watched the executions of his foes.

He said he has actively pursued the opportunity to write a sequel for a decade.

"Writer of the sequel to Dracula, that's the epitaph I've always wanted," he said.

The sequel is set about 25 years after the first novel ends.

More than 600 pages of the original novel were edited from the final work. Mr. Stoker and his wife, Jenne, visited the Rosenbach Museum in Philadelphia where Bram Stoker's original, handwritten notes were on display. The North American branch of the Stoker family has an autographed copy of the original novel.

Mr. Stoker said those items plus some private family papers were used to complete the sequel, which has Bram Stoker's original title, The Un-Dead.

"Believe me when I say we and Bram have some real big surprises for the fans - plot twists and characters that have been hidden from the public since 1897," says Ian. The new story is set in London in 1912, a quarter of a century after the blood-sucking Count apparently came to grief. The Vampire-hunter Van Helsing's protege Dr Seward is now a disgraced morphine addict, and Quincey, the son of Stoker's hero Jonathan, has become involved in a troubled theatre production of Dracula, directed and produced by Bram Stoker himself. The play plunges Quincey into the world of his parents' terrible secrets, but before he can confront them his father is found murdered, impaled in Piccadilly Circus.

The new book is the first Dracula story to be fully authorised by the Stoker family since the 1931 film starring Bela Lugosi and looks set to be a bestseller. It has already been sold for £1m to Dutton US, HarperCollins UK and Penguin Canada, and a film version is also being planned. The Rock believes there is life on other planets.

The wrestler turned actor - real name Dwayne Johnson - stars in new kids adventure movie Race To Witch Mountain about two alien children, and speaking at the London premiere of the film he confessed that he believed in aliens and UFOs.

The Rock said: "I do believe. I am a believer. I am a believer in aliens, I was a believer before the movie, I'm a believer after. I believe in ghosts, I believe in spirits - like I am that guy - so I am a believer. I haven't actually seen an alien, I have not, but maybe one day I will."

His co-star Carla Gugino added: "I actually do believe in UFOs. I think it would be pretty arrogant of us to think that we're the only intelligent life form in the entire universe, so I think it's probably more probable that there are than that there aren't. But I have never had a personal experience."

The film is a remake by director Andy Fickman of the 1970s film Escape To Witch Mountain.

Spy Kids star Carla said: "When I was a kid I was a big fan of the original.

"I feel like we really pay homage to the original and then take it to the next step for kids and for families right now. So it feels nice because it feels like a departure from it, as opposed to trying to copy it in any way."

Time For Marijuana Legalization?

Apparently, it was nothing personal after all. Apparently, it was strictly business all along.

After generations of defending capital punishment and marijuana possession laws on moral, ethical and religious grounds, after years of declaring that the death penalty acted as a deterrent against violent crime and that pot smokers were more dangerous to society than, say, alcohol consumers, all of a sudden thanks to our economic crisis more and moremainstream powerbrokers are considering dramatic changes to our criminal justice system.

The New York Times today has a late-arriving pieceby Ian Urbina which posits that lawmakers in several states are considering abandoning the death penalty because it’s just too expensive and cuts into other law enforcement priorities. State officials are beginning to acknowledge that they can more productively spend their budget funds on cracking unsolved cases or ensuring better police protection than on keeping pot smokers in prison or fighting for decades with capital defendants. This, Urbina writes, is forcing a sea-change around the nation:

“Last year, in an effort to cut costs, probation and parole agencies in Arizona, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Jersey and Vermont reduced or dropped prison time for thousands of offenders who violated conditions of their release. In some states, probation and parole violators account for up to two-thirds of prison admissions each year; typical violations are failing drug tests or missing meetings with parole officers.

As prison crowding has become acute, lawsuits have followed in states like California, and politicians find themselves having to choose among politically unattractive options: spend scarce tax dollars on expanding prisons, loosen laws to stem the flow of incarcerations, or release some nonviolent offenders.”

This trend toward releasing non-violent offenders naturally begs the question: what about legalizing marijuana possession and lowering the drinking age? A California lawmaker Monday introduced legislation that would legalize (and tax) pot there. In Colorado, as seen this past Sunday on 60 Minutes, the police chief in Boulder (which houses a raucous University of Colorado) made acompelling case for saving money by reducing the drinking age from 21. Better to have police officers tracking violent crime, the argument goes, than writing tickets for college kids who are going to drink no matter what.

These declarations, from the political and legal arena, are not just isolated voices shouting into the wilderness. Consider the late, great Milton Friedman, the Nobel Laureate, former Reagan advisor, and esteemed scholar associated with the very conservative Hoover Institution. He was amonghundreds of important economists who argue that pot should be legalized and taxed - and that the income from such taxation could generate billions in new revenues and billions more in enforcement savings. If you live in California, what would you rather have? Pot smokers whose cases are tying up the legal system? Or better health care and roads thanks to a marijuana tax. I’m just asking the question-and others are too.

Friedman and his colleagues first made these arguments years ago - before the economy tanked. Is it time to take his view more seriously with states facing huge budget shortfalls that threaten to curtail vital projects and policies? It is such a great leap from releasing prisoners from prison early to save money and not sending them there at all to save more? I would suspect a survey of police officials and prosecutors, and a survey of state budget officials, would indicate that the matter is being taken more seriously today than it ever has been.

It’s not my place to advocate anything - so please don’t write and accuse me of being Cheech or Chong. All I am saying is that the economic case for legalizing marijuana, and for lower the drinking rate, is as compelling as it has ever been and that, in a time of great changes in the interaction between government and the governed, it would not be the worst thing in the world to have a serious national debate on the topic. If we are going to lower state and federal budgets for criminal justice, if we are going to be emptying our prisons anyway to save costs, let’s make sure we do it in a way that maximizes the opportunities available to us.

Mystery fireball baffles witnesses in Texas

A mysterious fireball streaked across the Texas sky yesterday prompting a flood of calls to the emergency services and news organisations. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office sent up a helicopter to look around after witnesses said that they had seen what appeared to be falling debris from a plane crash at around 11am local time. Sheriff's spokesman John Foster said the search was inconclusive. “We don’t doubt what people saw; but authorities found nothing."

“We don’t know what it was,” confirmed Roland Herwig, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman. Max Lyon described the fireball as a glowing egg-shape with an orange centre, a blue-ish outer aura and a silvery-white tail.

"The tail was intact for several seconds, then became segmented," said Mr Lyon. "I conclude that the single object became several objects during incineration aftermath - a white tail remained visible for up to 10 minutes." Matthew Donelon of Georgetown said he saw a very bright orangey-purple object dart across the northern sky.

"The object left a smoke trail for a distance and then went out," said Mr Donelon. "The smoke trail lasted for more than 15 minutes before it dispersed. There was no sound, so I estimate it was some distance away."

The US Strategic Command said it did not believe there was any connection with an incident last Tuesday when two satellites from the US and Russia collided, creating a cloud of space junk. “There is no correlation between the debris from that collision and those reports of re-entry,” said Major Regina Winchester, with STRATCOM.

The FAA issued a warning to pilots on Saturday to be aware of possible space debris after the collision between US and Russian communication satellites. The chief of Russia’s Mission Control says clouds of debris from the collision will circle Earth for thousands of years and threaten numerous satellites. Some experts are now suggesting that the fast-moving Texas object was a meteor that burned up in the earth's atmosphere.

The Mayan Calendar

The Maya calendar is a system of distinct calendars and almanacs used by the Maya civilization of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, and by some modern Maya communities in highland Guatemala.

These calendars can be synchronized and interlocked, their combinations giving rise to further, more extensive cycles. The essentials of the Maya calendric system are based upon a system which had been in common use throughout the region, dating back to at least the 6th century BCE. It shares many aspects with calendars employed by other earlier Mesoamerican civilizations, such as the Zapotec and Olmec, and contemporary or later ones such as the Mixtec and Aztec calendars. Although the Mesoamerican calendar did not originate with the Maya, their subsequent extensions and refinements of it were the most sophisticated. Along with those of the Aztecs, the Maya calendars are the best-documented and most completely understood.

By the Maya mythological tradition, as documented in Colonial Yucatec accounts and reconstructed from Late Classic and Postclassic inscriptions, the deity Itzamna is frequently credited with bringing the knowledge of the calendar system to the ancestral Maya, along with writing in general and other foundational aspects of Maya culture.

The most important of these calendars is one with a period of 260 days. This 260-day calendar was prevalent across all Mesoamerican societies, and is of great antiquity (almost certainly the oldest of the calendars). It is still used in some regions of Oaxaca, and by the Maya communities of the Guatemalan highlands. The Maya version is commonly known to scholars as the Tzolkin, or Tzolk'in in the revised orthography of the Academia de las Lenguas Mayas de Guatemala. The Tzolk'in is combined with another 365-day calendar (known as the Haab, or Haab' ), to form a synchronized cycle lasting for 52 Haabs, called the Calendar Round. Smaller cycles of 13 days (the trecena) and 20 days (the veintena) were important components of the Tzolk'in and Haab' cycles, respectively.

A different form of calendar was used to track longer periods of time, and for the inscription of calendar dates (i.e., identifying when one event occurred in relation to others). This form, known as the Long Count, is based upon the number of elapsed days since a mythological starting-point. According to the correlation between the Long Count and Western calendars accepted by the great majority of Maya researchers (known as the GMT correlation), this starting-point is equivalent to August 11, 3114 BCE in the proleptic Gregorian calendar or 6 September in the Julian calendar (−3113 astronomical). The Goodman-Martinez-Thompson correlation was chosen by Thompson in 1935 based on earlier correlations by Joseph Goodman in 1905 (August 11), Juan Martínez Hernández in 1926 (August 12), and John Eric Sydney Thompson in 1927 (August 13). By its linear nature, the Long Count was capable of being extended to refer to any date far into the future (or past). This calendar involved the use of a positional notation system, in which each position signified an increasing multiple of the number of days. The Maya numeral system was essentially vigesimal (i.e., base-20), and each unit of a given position represented 20 times the unit of the position which preceded it. An important exception was made for the second place value, which instead represented 18 × 20, or 360 days, more closely approximating the solar year than would 20 × 20 = 400 days. It should be noted however that the cycles of the Long Count are independent of the solar year.

Many Maya Long Count inscriptions are supplemented by what is known as the Lunar Series, another calendar form which provides information on the lunar phase and position of the Moon in a half-yearly cycle of lunations.

A 584-day Venus cycle was also maintained, which tracked the appearance and conjunctions of Venus as the morning and evening stars. Many events in this cycle were seen as being inauspicious and baleful, and occasionally warfare was timed to coincide with stages in this cycle.

Other, less-prevalent or poorly-understood cycles, combinations and calendar progressions were also tracked. An 819-day count is attested in a few inscriptions; repeating sets of 9- and 13-day intervals associated with different groups of deities, animals and other significant concepts are also known.

UFOs to Appear at Obama's Inauguration

One of the most glorious days in American History is quickly approaching, the inauguration of the first African-American president. However, this day is not without its extraordinary promises. In October of 2008, Prophet Yahweh, known for summoning UFOs on live television, announced a vision of black alien men coming down from the heavens to protect Barack Obama on his inauguration day. There has been some speculation as to the need for the extraterrestrial security, but some prophets have claimed that an assassination attempt on the President of the United States is very likely.

Several sources have claimed that Barack Obama has some special connection with extraterrestrials. Some have even gone as far as to claim that he is an extraterrestrial Messiah sent to the planet earth, like superman or the Mormon Jesus. Others have claimed that an Obama “star” will appear on inauguration day to mark the second coming.

In an interview, Prophet Yahweh explained the connection between Obama and the UFOs. “I knew that because of my prayer requests or summons, in light of all holy Yahweh was telling me about the Obama UFO's, the sightings would show up in some way similar to how I was interpreting the symbolisms I was receiving” said Prophet Yahweh.

In November 1, 2008, a UFO was captured in a photo circling an Obama rally in Pueblo Colorado. Captured on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Mathews, the video clearly shows a UFO over Obama’s head.

UFOs over the capitol building in Washington will no doubt confirm the deeply held beliefs of many of Prophet Yahweh’s followers; however, another UFO no-show could spell disaster for the prophet’s credibility. In June 2005, Prophet Yahweh applied to participate in James Randi's Million Dollar Challenge and a January 2006 date was set to prove his abilities; however, Prophet Yahweh and the JREF disagreed over the prophet’s request for armed security at the summoning site.

“Taken” By The Extraterrestrial Phenomenon

During Asia’s premier of “Stephen Spielberg Presents Taken,” few guests made as much impact on the audience as Jaime “Jimmy” Licauco, considered as the Philippines’ foremost authority on inner mind development, creative and intuitive management, paranormal phenomena and Philippine mysticism.

Quips about what lies beyond from Licauco could be overheard during the night of extraterrestrial what-ifs, since he was among the panelists (aside from veteran production designer Don Escudero and PAGASA’s Elmor Escosa) invited by STAR Movies and DREAM Satellite TV to grace the event at the CCP in Pasay City. But perhaps what really caught everyone’s attention was when he said, “I’m in touch with aliens.”

How could a man as well educated as Jimmy Licauco—and highly esteemed at that—accept alien life form as true, and even publicly acknowledge that he has contact with them? Well, the question apparently only adds to Licauco’s air of credibility, given his background and credentials.

What did these creatures from outer space tell Mr. Licauco? For one, he told the audience that they oppose nuclear weapons and biological warfare because of vested interests on Earth. According to Licauco, the demise of the Earth would upset the balance in the cosmos and would adversely affect other planetary systems.

Who could counter his reasoning and underlying principle for the engineering and architectural feats of the world’s greatest structures like the great pyramids, the Sphinx or Stonehenge? Surely not mankind, who at that time didn’t posses the intellect or machinery for such mammoth structures.

Simply put, according to Licauco, aliens, or rather, intelligent life forms do exist. His argument was that the universe is too big for life to be contained on a small planet [Earth], and that if it is, then what is the purpose of the rest of the huge expanse? And this was just the visible universe that they were discussing.

He said, and this is what is splashed on the home page of the ‘Inner Mind Institute’ website, “People cannot fully comprehend the extraterrestrial phenomenon because the mind knows no limits aside from those it accepts.” He argued that all the scientific talk and cover-up made to justify reported alien and unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings all over the world was because maybe the public is not ready for the truth. He also said—on the point that alien or UFO sightings were uncommon in the Philippines because traveling in space was measured by light years—that aliens and the technology they are capable of are not bound by space or time, that they existed on a higher “plane.”

If “defending” the fact that extraterrestrial life existed was not enough, Jimmy went on to tell the audience about a call he got during “Inner Mind on Radio,” a weekly 2-hour show over DZMM that Jimmy hosted. He said the caller was an old woman, probably in her mid or late 60s, who told him about a dream she had about being “taken” onboard an alien ship.

The Mystery of Stonehenge

5000 years ago at a site near Amesbury, Wiltshire in England, someone decided to dig a serious of circular holes. Each of these holes was around a metre deep, a metre wide, and formed a part of a circle of 284 feet in diameter. Although human remains have been found, it is thought that the holes, known as 'Aubrey Holes', where originally excavated for some kind of religious ceremony. For whatever reason, the site was abandoned soon after its conception, and remained untouched for another 1000 years.

Then another 'Bright-Spark' had the brilliant idea of building a stone henge. Now, some of the rocks weighed around 4 tons, and just to make things a little more interesting, it was decided to bring in bluestones from the Preseli Mountains in Wales, some 240 miles away. Bear in mind, 4000 years ago a low-loader was out of the question. How they were moved, no-one knows for sure, but it is generally believed that the huge rocks were first inched along the coast of South Wales on rollers. That in itself is astonishing, but when you hear that the rocks were then loaded on to rafts and sailed up the rivers Avon and Frome, it becomes an almost superhuman effort.

Back to the rollers again to move them overland to a place near modern day Warminster, then once more onto rafts to transport them on the River Wylye to Salisbury, and if that wasn't enough, they then dragged them overland to where they are today. Let's face it, no-one is going to move them again in a hurry. Imagine that journey, then multiply it by 82. Yes 82, that's how many bluestones were moved from Wales, not counting any that may lie on the seabed through mishaps.

Anyway, after everyone had a nice cup of tea, the rocks were arranged in an incomplete double circle. The 'Avenue' was formed which aligned with the midsummer sunrise, and a pair of 'Heel Stones' were erected. Some of the stones were used as lintels, and if you've ever seen pictures of Stonehenge, it defies belief how these were ever lifted into position.

Why did they do it? Why did they go to all that trouble to create whatever Stonehenge is? I doubt very much that we'll ever know with complete certainty, although the idea of a place of worship seems the most likely. There are other theories of course, such as the huge calendar idea. One of the problems is that Stonehenge was built by a culture with no written language, so there are no rock carvings to decipher. Over the years, the mystery of Stonehenge has been the focus of many books and debates, which have spawned some interesting theories. It's not difficult to find someone who honestly believes that the rocks were placed in position by some extraterrestrial intelligence, or by time travellers who have yet to be born, but let me give you my theory; they're nutters, and as for Stonehenge, I'm not even going to hazard a guess.

A more palatable theory was proposed by Mike Parker Pearson, the head of the Stonehenge Riverside Project. He suggests that Stonehenge was joined to Durrington Walls which lies two miles to the east. Durrington was the land of the living whilst Stonehenge was reserved for the dead, the journey between the two being the transition from life to death. Geoffrey Wainwright, of the Society of Antiquaries of London, and Timothy Darvill believe that Stonehenge was a place of healing.

It's difficult to see how anyone can own such a place as Stonehenge, so let's say that it has been looked after by some notable people, none more so than Henry V111, who having acquired Amesbury Abbey, gave Stonehenge and the surrounding land to the Earl of Hertford in 1540. It then passed to Lord Carleton and then to the Marquis of Queensbury. In 1824, the Antrobus family purchased the estate, but when in 1915, their last heir was killed during World War 1 they sold it by auction to one Cecil Chubb for £6,600, who subsequently handed it on to the nation.

1920 saw a nationwide appeal aimed at saving Stonehenge from being swallowed up by modern buildings, which were springing up in the vicinity. An aerodrome had been built during the war, and a road junction had appeared perilously close to the stones. In 1928, the land around Stonehenge was given to the National Trust in order to preserve the integrity of the landscape. Stonehenge was voted one of the Seven Wonders of Britain in 2002.

Scientific Explanations For Remote Viewing

Light was thought to be an electromagnetic wave vibrating in an undetected, and later experimentally disproved media: "the ether", at certain rates of vibration that would define its color. It was part of the electromagnetic wave spectrum that allowed one to perceive an electromagnetic wave as heat, light , radio waves, or other electromagnetic radiations depending on the frequency of its vibrations. This spectrum had been well-defined by the equations of the English physicist James Clerk Maxwell in 1864.

Man's biology was reduced to a mechanical system albeit of extreme complexity, and thought was perceived to be but an epiphenomenon of the mechanical brain.

All this was very hygienic, logical, and comforting. It allowed to view the so-called invisible world of spiritual forces or entities as a personal unproven hypothesis, and permitted the justification of atheistic concept to be scientifically sound. Basically it allowed for purely atheistic politico-philosophies alike communism to find a sympathetic resonance within the "intelligentsia" and the masses.

It also gave a great mechanistic impetus and approach to the fields of biology, microbiology, psychology, neurobiology, and the allopathic technical mechanistic approach to the health sciences. Technology was "king" and the understanding of interactions between well-defined separated systems would bring the possible conquest of disturbances and imperfections in the "machinery" of biological entities.

Man having created a new religion called "science", which revered himself and his intellect, had the perception of having attained a Godlike control over nature.

By the end of 19th century the ultraviolet catastrophe - as it came to be known - put this whole hygienic view of the world in question, and the theory of "quanta" of Max Planck was introduced in 1900. The German physicist Max Planck introduced the notion of packets of energy that he called "quanta" in order to explain why the wavelength (color) of the radiation given off by heated objects did not rise in a continuous manner but in discontinuous spurts from value to value as they grew hotter. Danish physicist Niels Bohr, who was to become later one of the fathers of the "Manhattan Project" that developed the first US A-bomb during WWII, used in 1913 the theory of "quanta" of energy in order to prove that the whole world of atoms was full of "quantum" jumps. An electron could jump from one level of energy (so-called orbit) to another without appearing in-between these states. Discontinuity had been introduced in our equation of the universe!

Dear President Elect Obama,
Your campaign was based on a simple, but profound promise — change. There is one important aspect of the current bureaucracy in Washington, D.C., that desperately needs to change — UFO secrecy.
As president elect you have most likely been briefed on the more than 240 alien incursions of the restricted/prohibited airspace over Washington, D.C., that have transpired since 1948. Pentagon intelligence officers may have also briefed you on the failed military intercepts that occurred in this same period.
Some of these hostile intercepts proved fatal to our veteran, combat pilots — a tragic waste of life. However, the attempted military intercepts in 1948, 1952, 2002, etc. are what directly led to the current political stance on this subject — total silence.
Despite the fact that hundreds of people have seen and or photographed non-terrestrial, exotic aerospace craft passing over sensitive areas of Washington, D.C., we are told that officially nothing unusual is going on.
This situation has got to change. However, I am certain that your transition team leaders, specifically John Podesta, will urge you not to address this issue publicly.
You see, in 2005, soon after I broke the story internationally of UFOs being photographed over the Capitol, I spoke at length with Mr. Podesta's public relations firm in D.C. because they had issued press releases regarding their desire to end UFO secrecy. Therefore, it seemed like a good idea to contact them because I was looking for a public official to address the UFO situation in D.C. on the record.
However, I was told by Podesta's people that despite the fact that most of these violation of U.S. airspace by UFOs were witnessed by credible citizens of D.C. and or seen or radar scopes, and or photographed, no one holding political or public office would be willing to officially address the issue.
The reason for the official silence was actually quite simple. No one really knew what to do about it. More importantly, if an elected official were to officially admit anything publicly regarding the ongoing UFO incursions of U.S. airspace... that individual (and perhaps their federal agency) would be held personally responsible by the public to deal with the problem.
During your campaign, you stated your willingness to have a dialogue with all world leaders regardless of their political views. Are you also willing to engage in an open, diplomatic dialogue with the occupants of the unidentified aerospace craft visiting Washington, D.C.? If not, why not?

As reported in my book "Close Encounters on Capitol Hill," according to NATO's classified UFO threat assessment in the 1960s, many of the occupants of these exotic space craft are in fact human and that the others species were various types of intelligent humanoids.
More importantly, NATO concluded that these interplanetary people did not pose a direct threat to our national or international security. If that is true, then why should we continue to deny the existence of human beings from other worlds and refuse to engage them in open, diplomatic debate?
In closing, I would like to make it crystal clear that this is an ongoing situation that will not go away simply by ignoring or denying it exists. Exotic, non-terrestrial spacecraft have historically been sighted and or photographed all over the world. But, they are extremely interested in Washington, D.C.

UFO enthusiasts call on Obama to release X-Files
UFO enthusiasts are pressing Barack Obama to release classified documents about sightings of alien spacecraft, encouraged by support from within the President-Elect's own White House team.

Desperate to see the US emulate the British Government and disclose reported "contact" with UFOs, the enthusiasts have written to Mr Obama to ask that his administration comes clean about the contents of America's "X-Files".
They believe they have good prospects of success after public statements of support from both John Podesta, who is running Mr Obama's White House transition team, and Bill Richardson, the Governor of New Mexico - a UFO sighting hotspot - who is expected to secure a cabinet post.
In the letter to Mr Obama, the Extraterrestrial Phenomenon Political Action Committee calls on the President-Elect to "end the six-decade truth embargo regarding an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race".
The group wants the incoming president to insist on a "full briefing from your military services and intelligence agencies regarding what they know" and to open congressional hearings "to take testimony from scores of government witnesses who have already come forward with extraordinary evidence and are prepared to testify under oath."
The campaigners, who resent their common portrayal as nuts and conspiracy theorists, have high hopes of success due to their inside track with Mr Obama.
When he was the White House chief of staff under Bill Clinton, Mr Podesta led a project to declassify 800 million pages of intelligence documents. In a press conference, still available to watch on the YouTube website, Mr Podesta said: "It is time for the government to declassify records that are more than 25 years old and to provide scientists with data that will assist in determining the real nature of this phenomenon."
Gov Richardson, a former presidential candidate and fellow UFO aficionado, has written a forward to a book on the so-called Roswell Incident in New Mexico, where campaigners believe an alien spacecraft crash landed near the town of Roswell in 1947 and that the corpses of humanoid aliens have been kept hidden under lock and key by the government.

He has called for full disclosure by the Pentagon of what really occurred and reiterated his belief that there had been a "cover-up" during a presidential debate last year.
The campaigners, who want the truth "out there", believe that the British Government's decision to declassify thousands of UFO sighting documents this year has made it untenable for the US to maintain its policy of non-disclosure.
Only last week a US Air Force pilot, Milton Torres, whose testimony was released from the British archives, appeared on US television explaining how he was ordered to shoot down a large UFO over the UK in 1957 and then silenced by military officials, who told him never to speak of the incident.
Stephen Bassett, Executive Director of the Extraterrestrial Phenomenon Political Action Committee, expects to have gathered 40,000 signatures via email and fax by Mr Obama's inauguration day on Jan 20 in support of his calls for openness.
He told The Sunday Telegraph: "The truth embargo is now at the end of the line. The release of documents in Britain and France has put huge pressure on the US. It makes the government here look pretty stupid.
"I think we are seeing the Democrats moving towards disclosure. John Podesta has outed himself as an enthusiast. He thinks the American public can handle the truth. Bill Richardson thinks there was a cover-up."
Mr Bassett also believes that military and intelligence officials have studied the technology of alien spacecraft, material that would help the US develop new energy resources, as Mr Obama wishes, that will lessen US dependency on Middle Eastern oil.

Slendor, crescent moon will illumninate two brightest planets

Look to the southwest after sunset on Dec. 1 for a close conjunction between three bright solar system objects: the moon, Venus and Jupiter. If you have binoculars, you might even be able to fit all three of them in the field of view. Between now and then, you can see Jupiter and Venus getting closer together each evening.

Every once in a while, something will appear in the night sky that will attract the attention of even those who normally don't bother looking up. It's likely to be that way on Monday evening, Dec. 1.

A slender crescent moon, just 15 percent illuminated, will appear in very close proximity to the two brightest planets in our sky, Venus and Jupiter.

People who are unaware or have no advance notice will almost certainly wonder, as they cast a casual glance toward the moon on that night, what those two "large silvery stars" happen to be? Sometimes, such an occasion brings with it a sudden spike of phone calls to local planetariums, weather offices and even police precincts. Not a few of these calls excitedly inquire about "the UFOs" that are hovering in the vicinity of our natural satellite.

Very bright objects
Venus has adorned the southwestern twilight sky since late August. No other star or planet can come close to matching Venus in brilliance. During World War II, aircraft spotters sometimes mistook Venus for an enemy airplane. There were even cases in which Venus drew antiaircraft fire.

This winter, Venus is the unrivaled evening star that will soar from excellent to magnificent prominence in the southwest at nightfall. The interval by which it follows the Sun will increase from nearly three hours on Dec. 1 to almost four hours by Jan. 1.

It's probably the first "star" you'll see coming out after sunset. In fact, if the air is very clear and the sky a good, deep blue, try looking for Venus shortly before sunset.

Jupiter starts December just above Venus and is moving in the opposite direction, dropping progressively lower each evening. By month's end Jupiter meets up with another planet — Mercury — but by then Jupiter is also descending deep into the glow of sunset. In January, Jupiter will be too close to the Sun to see; it's in conjunction with the Sun on Jan. 24.

Earthlit ball
A very close conjunction of the crescent moon and a bright star or planet can be an awe-inspiring naked-eye spectacle. The English poet, critic and philosopher Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) used just such a celestial sight as an ominous portent in his epic, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner."

In addition, there are juxtaposed crescent moon and star symbols that have appeared on the flags of many nations, including Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, Algeria, Mauritania, and Tunisia.

Also on Monday evening, you may be able to see the full globe of the moon, its darkened portion glowing with a bluish-gray hue interposed between the sunlit crescent and not much darker sky. This vision is sometimes called "the old moon in the young moon's arms." Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was the first to recognize it as what we now call "earthshine."

As seen from the moon, the Earth would loom in the sky some 3.7 times larger than the moon does for us.

In addition, the land masses, the oceans and clouds make the Earth a far better reflector of sunlight as compared to the moon. In fact, the Earth's reflectivity varies as clouds, which appear far more brilliant than the land and seas, cover greater or lesser parts of the visible hemisphere. The result is that the Earth shines between 45 and 100 times more brightly than the moon.

The Earth also goes through phases, just as the moon does for us, although they are opposite from what we see from Earth. The term for this is called "complementary phases."

On Nov. 27, for example, there was a new moon for us, but as seen from the surface of the moon that day, there appeared in the lunar sky a brilliant full Earth. A few nights later, as the sliver of a crescent moon begins to appear in our western twilight sky, its entire globe may be glimpsed.

Sunlight is responsible for the slender crescent, yet the remainder of the moon appears to shine with a dim blush-gray tone. That part is not receiving sunlight, but shines by virtue of reflected earthlight: the nearly full Earth illuminating the otherwise dark lunar landscape. So earthshine is really sunlight which is reflected off Earth to the moon and then reflected back to Earth.

Keeping it all in perspective
Keep in mind that this head-turning display of three celestial objects crowded together will be merely an illusion of perspective: the moon will be only about 251,400 miles from Earth, while Venus is nearly 371 times farther away, at 93.2 million miles. Meanwhile, Jupiter is almost 2,150 times farther away than our natural satellite at 540.3 million miles.

Those using binoculars or a small telescope will certainly enjoy the almost three-dimensional aspect of the moon, but Venus will be rather disappointing appearing only as a brilliant blob of light, for right now, it's a small, featureless gibbous disk.

That will change in the coming weeks, however, as Venus approaches Earth and the angle it makes between us and the Sun allows it to evolve into a "half-moon" phase in mid-January, and a lovely crescent phase of its own during the latter part of February and March.

Jupiter, on the other hand, is a far more pleasing sight with its relatively large disk, cloud bands and its retinue of bright Galilean satellites.

All four will be in view on Monday evening, with Callisto sitting alone on one side of Jupiter, Ganymede, Io and Europa will be on the other side. Io and Europa will in fact, appear very close to each other, separated by only about one-sixth the apparent width of Jupiter.

Venus 'eclipse' for Europe
As beautiful as the view of Venus, Jupiter and the moon will be from North America, an even more spectacular sight awaits those living in parts of Western Europe where the moon will pass in front of Venus.

Astronomers refer to this phenomenon as an "occultation," taken from the Latin word "occultÄ re," which means "to conceal."

This eye-catching sight will be visible in complete darkness across much of Eastern Europe. Farther west, Venus will disappear behind the dark part of the moon either during evening twilight or just before the Sun sets.

When Venus emerges, it will look like a brightening jewel on the slender lunar crescent. For virtually all of Europe, the Sun will have set by then, the exception being southern Portugal (including Lisbon).

Such favorable circumstances are quite rare for any given location. For example, the last time London was treated to such a favorably placed Venus occultation such was back on Oct. 7, 1961.

And after 2008, there will not be another similarly favorable Venus occultation for the United Kingdom until Jan. 10, 2032.

Obama Vetting Bill Richardson, Space Enthusiast

The political buzz is that President-elect Barack Obama is looking at New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson as Commerce Secretary or some other senior post in his administration.

That news sent me scrambling back to some notes I took Oct. 24 at the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge.

Richardson showed up at the event -- held at the Las Cruses International Airport in New Mexico -- to announce a partnership between Rocket Racing, Inc. and Armadillo Aerospace to create a new suborbital spaceship concept to fly from the his state's Spaceport America.

During a press gab session, Richardson was asked about any possible post he might play in an Obama White House. The New Mexico governor played it a little coy, but said:

"Here's what I want to be sure of ... that the Obama administration is pro-commercial space ... that the administration is pro-space, pro-government space, pro-commercial space," Richardson observed.

Richardson said that "it's in the interest of our national space industry that commercial space could properly develop ... so I will be an advocate wherever I am ... hopefully here, still as governor of New Mexico ... you never know."

So hold onto those words, commercial space fans!

Meanwhile, you might remember the election-day thumbs down by the state's Otero County on a local tax hike to help build Spaceport America.

Steve Landeene, Executive Director of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA) recently told me: "Several other counties have expressed an interest to join the Spaceport District as well as the recently announced Spaceport America Institute to perform fundraising. In addition we will be seeking federal support as well."

There is room within the budget to complete the Spaceport America infrastructure without the Otero county vote, Landeene added.

NMSA currently projects that licensed vertical launches at Spaceport America should begin in the first quarter of 2009 and that the terminal and hangar facility for horizontal launches should be completed by late 2010.

Extrasolar planet photographed for the first time

A little more of the universe has been pried out of the shadows. Two groups of astronomers have taken the first pictures of what they say — and other astronomers agree — are most likely planets going around other stars.

The achievement, the result of years of effort on improved observational techniques and better data analysis, presages more such discoveries, the experts said, and will open the door to new investigations and discoveries of what planets are and how they came to be formed.

“It’s the tip of the iceberg,” said Christian Marois of the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics in Victoria, British Columbia. “Now that we know they are there, there is going to be an explosion.”

Dr. Marois is the leader of a team that recorded three planets circling a star known as HR 8799 that is 130 light-years away in the constellation Pegasus. The other team, led by Paul Kalas of the University of California, Berkeley, found a planet orbiting the star Fomalhaut, only 25 light-years from Earth, in the constellation Piscis Austrinus.

In an interview by e-mail, Dr. Kalas said that when he finally confirmed his discovery last May, “I nearly had a heart attack.”

In the Old Testament, Babylon is destroyed by God as a punishment for the decadence and cruelty of its inhabitants. But a new disaster has befallen the ancient metropolis - coalition troops serving in Iraq are accused of causing irreversible damage to what is one of the world’s most important archaeological sites.

An exhibition of film and photographs opening at the British Museum in London on Thursday exposes the extent of the destruction to the public for the first time.

American, Polish and other coalition troops set up a military camp amid the ruins of Nebuchadnezzar’s sprawling city, near the modern city of al-Hillah, in April 2003 and stayed there until December 2004.

John Curtis, the keeper of the museum’s Middle East department, said: “A lot of damage was done between their arrival in the immediate aftermath of the invasion and when they left the site. It was scandalous - like driving a tank between the stones at Stonehenge.”

It’s digging long trenches for military purposes, levelling areas of the site, driving heavy vehicles around it, contaminating earth full of archaeological evidence, bringing in earth from outside Babylon and establishing a helipad in one of the most famous sites of the ancient world. What they did is irreversible.” Once the largest city in the world, Babylon reached its peak in the 6th century BC under Nebuchadnezzar, the king who conquered Jerusalem, deported the Jews to Babylon and built the Hanging Gardens, a Wonder of the World.

Highlights of Babylon: Myth and Reality include several magnificent glazed brick reliefs from the walls of the 2,600-year-old Processional Way that led to Nebuchadnezzar’s palace, a reconstruction of the Tower of Babel and a section on Babylon’s impact on modern culture. It also examines the city’s practical legacy: Babylon gave the world the first-known legal code and written language, early examples of astrology and weights and measures and the use of the number 60 to subdivide measurements of time.

The exhibition has already been staged in France and Germany, but the London show is the first to focus on the present-day threats to the site, Mr Curtis said. “It’s not just Babylon after the invasion. It’s also Babylon in the time of Saddam Hussein.” Saddam used illustrations of Babylon on banknotes, and depicted himself as a Babylonian ruler.

He was told to keep a government secret or lose his job as an Air Force fighter pilot. Now the secret is out, and a South Florida man is talking about the night he was ordered to shoot down a UFO.

The incident happened more than 40 years ago, when Milton Torres said he had a close encounter that all started with a command from superiors to "scramble." Torres, jumped into his F-86 Sabre jet. "Within two minutes we were airborne, Torres said.

He flew from an airfield in Kent, England, and headed for a target over East Anglia. "They also said this was an active fire mission -- that I would be firing 24 rockets," Torres said.

When Torres looked down into his radar, he was approaching what look like an aircraft carrier in the sky. "It was a big blip," Torres said. "I locked on; I had an overtake speed; everything was going fine." Then, with about 20 seconds to go, the blip started shrinking. "The next thing I know, it was gone," Torres said. "He just disappeared. He just took off."

Torres estimated that the unknown aircraft had to be traveling at about mach 10, or about 5,000 mph. In 1957, nothing went that fast.

Back at the base, his commanders had no answers. "They told me, 'We don't know what happened. We know he went off the scope completely.'"

Torres said it was a cloudy day, but there is no way the U.S. military was stuck in the Twilight Zone that night. "My wingman's radar, my radar, and the ground radar together. Three different radars, no," Torres said.

The incident was recently declassified by the British Ministry of Defense and posted online. The documents only tell Torres' version of the story, sent to the department in 1988. The retired airman, who holds three degrees and taught engineering, never heard back.

The day after the mission, he was debriefed by a U.S. civilian at the airfield who told him the mission was considered highly classified, and if he ever mentioned it again, he would not be flying airplanes anymore.

To this day, Torres said he absolutely believes it was a UFO.

The Ancient Origins of Halloween

Halloween's constantly evolving traditions originated about 2,000 years ago in the Celtic culture that thrived in what is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France.

Oct. 31 marked the end of the Celtic year and the annual ancient festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). This event celebrated the end of both the summer and the harvest. It was a pivotal time for early pagans whose lives were so closely linked to the land.

Perhaps more closely linked to modern concepts of Halloween, the time also marked the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time often associated with human death. During the night of Samhain, the boundary between the living and the dead was thought to become blurred. Celts believed ghosts returned to Earth at this time to cause trouble and damage crops.

In order to lessen the mischief of the dead, they lit huge bonfires and burned crops and animals for sacrifice. During these ceremonies, they wore costumes usually consisting of animal heads and skins.

By 43 AD, Romans had conquered much of the Celtic territory. The conquerors merged Samhain with two customs of their own. The first, called Feralia, commemorated the dead. The second tradition honored Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. Her symbol was an apple, and this explains the inclusion of apple-bobbing during many autumn festivals.

In 800 AD, Pope Boniface IV tried to replace all of these fall rituals with All Saints' Day on November 1, in honor of saints and martyrs. The night before became known as All-Hallows Eve, which was eventually shortened to Halloween.

Two centuries later, the Catholic Church named November 2 All Souls' Day, and citizens began dressing up as saints, angels, and devils to honor Catholic beliefs.

Eventually, the three day period from October 31-November 2, which included the eve of All Saints' Day, All Saints' Day, and All Souls' Day, became known collectively as Hallowmas.

When European immigrants settled in North America, their differing ethnic customs merged with aspects of Native American cultures to form a Halloween holiday unique to America.

In its early days, Americans celebrated with costume parties, where they often played fortune telling games. These frequently focused on determining which of a young woman's suitors she would marry.

At the turn of the twentieth century, there was a push away from superstition and the occult to make Halloween a more neighborhood-oriented event. By the 1950's, the holiday was largely for children.

Over the next few decades, the holiday once again became popular among adults. Halloween is now the second largest commercial holiday in the country, with Americans spending $6.9 billion each year.

Whitley Strieber has reported for years that the visitors have told him that the reason that they do not make contact with us is that the United States shoots at them, and now the UK Ministry of Defense has confirmed that this is military policy among Western nations.
Formerly classified British government UFO files reveal that two fighter planes were scrambled and ordered to shoot down a UFO that appeared over the English countryside in 1957. In Yahoo News, Peter Griffiths quotes Milton Torres, who piloted of one of the fighter jets, as saying, "I had a lock-on that had the proportions of a flying aircraft carrier. The larger the airplane, the easier the lock-on. This blip almost locked itself…The order came to fire a salvo of rockets at the UFO. The authentication was valid and I selected 24 rockets." In typical UFO fashion, the mysterious craft hovered, flew in patterns, then disappeared suddenly at top speed when it was shot at—feats no human-engineered craft can accomplish even today.

After he returned to base, he was debriefed the next day by what many UFO experiencers will recognize as a "man in black." Griffiths quotes Torres as saying that he "looked like a well-dressed IBM salesman…He threatened me with a national security breach if I breathed a word about it to anyone."

Torres now lives in Miami. He says he was told to keep silent and he kept this pledge for over 50 years, but now that the UK has declassified this information, he undoubtedly feels that it’s safe to speak up.

British Government Declassifies UFO Files

October 20, 2008 - Your typical United States based UFO close-encounter story usually involves the same setting and cast of characters. An open plain of backwoods country populated with cows and your average buck-toothed, slack jawed farmer. Not exactly prime writing material for an episode of X-Files. In the UK however, some of the best UFO sightings ever recorded are being released for the first time by the Ministry of Defense, in a effort to give the public a chance to view the findings for themselves and give their own interpretation of the information.
The documents, which are available online and can be downloaded directly from the National Archives website, cover the span of the last three decades and feature accounts of the public witnessing strange lights and unexplained objects in the sky, including reports from police officers and the armed forces.
The released files are a part of a set of almost 200 that are to be made available over the next four years, with the current documents downloadable for free for the first month.

Accounts include a 78-year-old man who claims that he met an alien beside the Basingstoke Canal in Aldershot, Hampshire in 1983. After boarding the alien's craft, the man was quizzed by the aliens on his age, and was then told that he was free to leave because, "You are too old and too infirm for our purpose." Who knew that alien's have a code of standards when it comes to abduction? I suppose its better to be safe than sorry, you never know who your picking up.
Another report includes the first hand account of a US Air Force pilot that was ordered to shoot down a UFO that appeared on radar during a flight over East Anglia. As of press time, no confirmation was given as to whether or not that Air Force pilot was Will Smith or Harry Connick Jr.
The files aren't limited to just witnessing UFO's either, the reports also contain letters from people offering up the fact that they themselves are aliens, including a woman who claimed to be from the Sirius system (Undoubtedly an avid Howard Stern fan), who says her craft, which also contained two "Spectrans" with "Mr. Spock ears", crashed during World War II in Britain.
The released documents are being praised from within' the UFO community. Dr. David Clarke, a UFO expert from Sheffield Hallam University, thinks that the files can shed new light on these relatively unknown sittings, but will do little to silence conspiracy theories on aliens. On the BBC Radio 4 Today program, he explained: "I doubt the disclosure of these files will convince those who believe there is an official cover-up. Inevitably, some have already dismissed this release as a whitewash. For them the 'truth' still remains out there, hidden no doubt in more above top secret files hidden somewhere else."

Hoping to do for V what the Sci Fi Channel did for Battlestar Galactica, ABC has given the go-ahead on a reboot of the hit 1980s franchise about alien lizards from another planet who take over Earth.

Scott Peters, the brain behind The 4400, will write and executive produce the update with Warner Bros. TV, per Variety. Warners shepherded the 1983 NBC TV movie, its sequel and a standalone series that ran during the 1984-85 season.

The new version will completely revamp the original, including changing the allusions from the Holocaust to 9/11.

Original V mastermind Kenneth Johnson, the über-producer who also created The Bionic Woman, The Incredible Hulk and Alien Nation, had previously tried to get a new V off the ground, but he is not involved in the new incarnation.

"I was convinvnced that V should be a movie," he tells E! News. "I discovered that Warner controlled the TV rights. I, as the creator, own the motion picture rights to V. Virtually all the majors wanted to do it...and pay me a lot of money to write and produce a $200 million tentpole."

Back in the '80s, Johnson was shunted aside by NBC and Warners and had nothing to do with V: The Final Battle or the subsequent TV series, both of which failed to match the critical or commercial success of the original. Still smarting, he has been reluctant to hand over the reins to a movie version, preferring to do it himself.

Enter Peters.

"Warners felt they wanted to develop [a new TV project] and had Scott write a script. And now they announced they have a development deal with ABC for a potential pilot for a potential series. But that's what it is, development for a potential," says Johnson. "In the meantime, I've been trying to get V done the way I want it done so I can...make sure the integrity, quality and substance of the original is maintained."

Should he manage to get financing for his big-screen vision, Johnson also has plans for a sequel, V: The Second Generation, which would pick up with Earth's freedom fighters 20 years later and possibly feature castmembers from the 1980s edition, including Marc "Beastmaster" Singer and Faye Grant.

"It'd be a real treat for the fans and the cast of V to be reunited again," says Johnson. "So that's the game plan."

Bram Stoker's great-grandnephew and blood descendant, Dacre Stoker, and award-winning Dracula documentarian and historian Ian Holt have sold North American-English publishing rights of the Stoker-family-authorized sequel to Bram's classic novel DRACULA: THE-UNDEAD for well over mid - seven figures. According to the release, new novels are on the way, along with a feature film. Read on and see if you can decipher what's going on with the film.

LONDON, 1912: Someone is stalking the brave band of heroes who had defeated the vampire Dracula a quarter-century ago.

Laura Shin, senior editor of Penguin-Canada, who signed up for two additional sequels, said, "I was thrilled by this page-turning story and loved spending time with those great characters-Stoker and Holt did a fantastic job melding the old with the new, and I found the work to be a virtually seamless continuation of the original. The story has all the hallmarks of a historical novel, but with a modern sensibility that gives it wide-spread appeal." Dutton and Harper signed a single novel deal. Although other precedent-setting foreign deals are already closed from preempts, Baror is planning to sign the bulk of world territories at the upcoming Frankfurt Book Fair.

Using Stoker family connections, the writers were able to access Bram Stoker's hand-written notes for his novel - which, before an editor changed the title, was to have been called "The Un-Dead."

"Our story," Stoker said, "includes characters and plot threads that had been excised by the publisher from the original printing over a century ago." Dracula is one of the most recognized fictitious characters in the world, having spawned dozens of books and movies; the original novel, according to historians’ best estimates, has sold millions of copies-second only to the Bible, available in over fifty languages--and generated hundreds of millions of dollars. “The Un-Dead” is the first Dracula story to enjoy the full support of the Stoker clan since the original 1931 movie starring Bela Lugosi. Lugosi's appearance in Hamilton Deane’s and John Balderston's stage production of the story on Broadway in New York, fifteen years after Bram Stoker's death in 1927, sparked the original novel's bestselling popularity. It has never been out of print since.

AEI's Ken Atchity, Chi-Li Wong, and Michael T. Kuciak ("Life or Something Like It," "Joe Somebody," "Ripley's Believe-It-Or-Not!") will produce the film with Blue Tulip's Jan de Bont ("Twister," "Speed," "Minority Report"), and are expecting to see it go before the cameras in June '09. The script has been completed by Ian Holt with the story co-written by Alexander Galant, who are both managed by AEI and agented by Ron Gwiazda and Amy Wagner at Abrams Artists.

Both Stoker and Galant are Canadian, though Stoker now lives in the U.S. He was the Canadian Modern Pentathlon Coach from 1983-1987 and then Canadian Olympic Modern Pentathlon Coach at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Holt, who has visited Dracula's Castle in Transylvania and is a member of The Transylvanian Society of Dracula, lives in Long Island, New York.

Watching the whole Sarah Palin saga unfold, I can't help but think of Laura Roslin from Battlestar Galactica.

On the show, humanity is all but wiped out by the Cylons. The President is killed. In fact, most of the government is killed. The constitutional line of presidential succession ends up falling to the still-living Secretary of Education -- Laura Roslin -- who is then sworn in as President. And thus begins the storyline of the improbable ascension of a lowly schoolteacher to the Presidency.

If McCain is actually elected, and something happens to him, we will suddenly have the 'Laura Roslin Scenario': someone who has been trotted out for political optics and theatre... suddenly actually sitting in the Big Chair.

Now people will start getting the names Obama and Adama confused.

UFOs: How Do They Get Here?

What are UFOs, and where do they come from? Are they extraterrestrial spacecraft visiting Earth from another star system in our galaxy, or are they from our own solar system? Are they interdimensional in nature with the ability to pop into our universe from another parallel universe? Obviously, we can't answer any of these questions with absolute certainty, but it is possible to speculate on some of the scientific principles that might explain timely interstellar spaceflight or methods of interdimensional travel.

First, let us assume that UFOs originate from other stars in our own galaxy. The nearest star to our planet, other than the sun, is Alpha Centauri, which is approximately four light years away. At this distance, even at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second), a spacecraft from that star system would take 4 years to reach Earth, at least from our frame of reference. However, due to relativistic effects such as Lorentz contraction (the shortening of distance in the direction of motion) and time dilation (the slowing down of time), the occupants of the craft may experience a somewhat shorter trip. Even so, traveling near the speed of light does not seem to be a very efficient way of exploring a galaxy that is over 100,000 light years in diameter. Could it be that alien technology has carried them beyond normal modes of space travel? Are they capable of near-instantaneous travel from one part of the galaxy to another? Looking at UFO reports over the past 60 years, there are many instances of craft that seemingly blink in and out of existence. Maybe this is evidence of a super-technology that we can only imagine at this point in our evolution.

To get a better understanding of how extraterrestrial spacecraft might achieve this technology, it is necessary to delve into the dark abyss called quantum theory. The idea of quantum connection suggests that once two quantum systems have interacted, they are permanently linked, no matter what the distance is between them. Because of this link, superluminal communication (faster than light) is possible between the two systems. Through a process called quantum tunneling, a particle in system A can instantaneously travel to system B, even though the two systems may be separated by great distances. Could it be that the extraterrestrials have incorporated their understanding of this area of physics into space travel?

The idea of quantum tunneling can be further extended to explain interdimensional travel. Scientists have long theorized on the possible existence of multiple universes, all of them together making up a set of all possible outcomes of all possible events. For example, if our universe had been formed in a slightly different manner, then life as we know it would not be possible. Perhaps there is a separate universe for every possible initial condition at the time of the Big Bang, with each of these universes containing life totally foreign to us. It takes a significant stretch of the imagination to grasp these concepts, but perhaps some UFO occupants have succeeded in using a form of quantum tunneling to travel between universes. To an observer, this technology might manifest itself in the sudden appearances and disappearances of UFOs, the so-called blinking effect.

Of course, we can only describe UFOs and explain their technology in terms of our own limited knowledge. The reality of the UFO phenomenon might be far beyond anything imaginable.

UFO hacker is broken man, says family

A GLASGOW-BORN computer expert accused of hacking into American military systems is "distraught" as he awaits extradition to the US, his family and friends said yesterday.
The parents and girlfriend of Gary McKinnon, 42, joined supporters in London for a demonstration outside the Home Office, calling on the government to prevent him from being handed over to American authorities.

McKinnon, an unemployed systems analyst from north London, admits accessing 97 US military and Pentagon computers, but claimed he was looking for UFO files.

The US government accuses him of stealing passwords and deleting files.

McKinnon faces up to 70 years in prison if he is found guilty.

His partner, Lucy Clarke, 37, said: "He is a broken man – he is distraught. The whole family has been living in terror."

His father, Charlie McKinnon, 63, who travelled from his Glasgow home, said: "I don't want him to go to America.

"There is no hope for him to face a fair trial – they've made up their minds."

The hunt was on Wednesday for two North American forest-roaming bipeds, last seen in Northern California, present whereabouts unknown.

Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, the Georgia men who claimed to have found a Bigfoot body, were being sought by Tom Biscardi, whose money they absconded with once the frozen "corpse" was revealed to be a hoax.

"We have a contract with these people," Biscardi, a former Las Vegas promoter now based in Menlo Park, Calif., told Fox News Wednesday morning. "We paid them the money the night before [the press conference.] ... They didn't figure I'd have a turbo heater on that thing to thaw it out before they left California."

Biscardi wouldn't confirm where the body was, but it apparently had been moved from Georgia to Indiana. An Indianapolis Fox affiliate was given a look at the "corpse" Monday by Biscardi's investigator, Steve Kulls.

Asked to confirm rumors that he'd given Dyer and Whitton a $50,000 advance on future earnings from the bogus Bigfoot, Biscardi would say only that "it was a substantial amount of money" numbering in the thousands which came from unnamed "investors."

Biscardi told Fox's Megyn Kelly, who'd previously been invited to view the specimen herself, that the rubber Halloween suit had been stuffed full of, well, organic material.

"It was the most macabre thing you've ever seen in your life," he said. "There's body parts of other animals in there — bones, eyes, tongues, cheeks. It's just incredible."

Asked how he could have been fooled, Biscardi argued that it was hard to tell when the thing was encased in a block of ice.

Meanwhile, other Bigfoot hunters nationwide piled on Biscardi, noting that he was perfectly willing to charge for photos of the "corpse" on his Web site before Kulls determined it was fake early on Sunday morning.

"Warrants need to be issued immediately before Biscardi leaves the country," read a manifesto posted on the Web site of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization. "Santa Clara County, California, (where the press conference was held) clearly has jurisdiction to issue the warrants, and all the elements of fraud are present."

But Nick Muyo, a spokesman with the Santa Clara County district attorney's office, said jurisdiction might be hard to establish.

"If Tom Biscardi files a police report in Menlo Park, it would originate with San Mateo County," he said. "But it sounds like Santa Clara, as well as counties in Georgia and Indiana, could also get involved."

It's possible that fraud charges could be filed against Dyer and Whitton, as Biscardi seems to want, though it's not clear whether it'd be a criminal or civil case.

"[Biscardi] freely gave them the money," noted Jeffrey Turner, police chief of Clayton County, Ga., who fired Whitton as an officer Tuesday but couldn't locate him to inform him of his termination. "It'd be a civil matter."

Muyo said that once a police report was filed, then a criminal investigation could be launched.

Kulls, meanwhile, whom the BFRO labeled as "a long-time member of Biscardi's own gang," contacted Loren Coleman at Cryptomundo.com on Tuesday to dissociate himself from Biscardi.

"At this time I am breaking any association or cooperation with Tom Biscardi and his company," Kulls' statement read, though it also said, "People ask me if [Biscardi] was complicit in this hoax. I honestly believe he was not."

It may be difficult for Biscardi to claim he was defrauded, as the "24-Hour Sighting Hotline" number posted on Dyer and Whitton's Web site, BigfootTracker.com, asks for tips related to "leprechauns, unicorns, large cats, dinosaurs," as well as "Jimmy Hoffa or Elvis."

As for one scientist who Biscardi said on Friday would be examining the Bigfoot body? He told a news network he'd never been contacted.

Stanford University anthropologist Richard Klein said he was "sorry that my name and Stanford's name have been brought into this."

But this time it will be for a UFO of another kind.

Fyffe, a city of less than 1,000, is holding its fourth annual Unforgettable Family Outing or UFO Days on Friday and Saturday.

A mini-industry sprung up in Fyffe after the sightings in early 1989, which had hundreds of people showing up to gaze into the night sky in search of flying saucers.

"As everyone knows, we are the UFO capital of Alabama," Fyffe Mayor Larry Lingerfelt said. "We have come to realize that our somewhat different reputation and worldwide fame of having alleged UFO sightings should be fostered and cherished."

He said the festival has grown tremendously since its start three years ago and has a great impact on the local economy.

This year there will be helicopter rides for the first time and Rhythm Nation, a 10-piece Atlanta band with horns, will perform at the free event.

The festivities begin Friday morning with the liftoff of hot air balloons. Balloonists from all over the Southeast will provide hour-long rides across Sand Mountain.

Friday night's music will start at 5, intertwined with the theme "Teen Night in the Park."

On stage that night, a "Ms. Senior UFO Pageant" will take place followed by gospel and Christian music.

Lingerfelt said this pageant is also a first for the festival.

Saturday includes an antique tractor show and Civil War re-enactment, along with live music and street vendors.

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Bigfoot or big fat lie? Whenever someone reports sighting the hairy beast of yore (details always fuzzy) or capturing the hirsute humanoid on film (images always grainy), it scares up a dubious debate of international proportions. Friday was just the latest episode in the Sasquatch show, as unreal as it may be.

Two men who claim to have stumbled across a Bigfoot corpse in the woods of northern Georgia indignantly stood by their story at a news conference in Palo Alto during which they offered an e-mail from a scientist as evidence and acknowledged they wouldn't mind making a few bucks from the "find" they have kept stuffed in a freezer for over a month.

"Everyone who has talked down to us is going to eat their words," predicted Matt Whitton, an officer on medical leave from the Clayton County Police Department.

Whitton and Rick Dyer, a former corrections officer, announced the discovery in early July on YouTube videos and their Web site. Although they did not consider themselves devoted Bigfoot trackers before then, they have since started offering weekend search expeditions in Georgia for $499. The specimen they bagged, the men say, was one of several apelike creatures they spotted cavorting in the woods.

As they faced a skeptical audience of several hundred journalists and Bigfoot fans that included one curiosity seeker in a Chewbacca suit, the pair were joined Friday by Tom Biscardi, head of a group called Searching for Bigfoot. Other Bigfoot hunters call Biscardi a huckster looking for media attention.

Biscardi fielded most of the questions. Among them: Why should anyone accept the men's tale when they weren't willing to display their frozen artifact or pinpoint where they allegedly found it? How come bushwhackers aren't constantly tripping over primate remains if there are as many as 7,000 Bigfoots roaming the United States, as Biscardi claimed?

"I understand where you are coming from, but how many real Bigfoot researchers are out there trekking 140,000 miles a year?" Biscardi said.

Biscardi, Whitton and Dyer presented what they called evidence supporting the Bigfoot theory. It was an e-mail from a University of Minnesota scientist, but all it said was that of the three DNA samples sent to the scientist, one was human, one was likely a possum and the third could not be tested because of technical problems.

At least one other Bigfoot researcher, Idaho State University anthropologist Jeffrey Meldrum, called the trio's claims "not compelling in the least." He told the Scientific American that photographs posted on the Web site "just looks like a costume with some fake guts thrown on top for effect."

Whitton and Dyer have offered three different accounts of how they found the beast's remains.

In early videos, the animal was shot by a former felon, and the men followed it into the woods. In a second version, they found a "family of Bigfoot" in the north Georgia mountains. In the third, the two were hiking and stumbled upon the corpse with open wounds.

In one of their YouTube videos, they are shown speaking with a man they identify as a scientist. Earlier this week, they admitted that the man was Dyer's brother. Dyer said they were simply having fun.

Asked why anyone should believe his claims when he already had shown a flair for tomfoolery, he suggested that skeptics simply are jealous.

"They don't have a choice to believe us. We have a body," Dyer said.

Bigfoot Press Conference Results Are In.. Nothing New.

I just watched the coming-out party for Bigfoot at a news conference in Palo Alto, California. Bigfoot did not attend. The participants included a publicist; veteran Bigfoot hunter Tom Biscardi; and the two alleged discoverers of a Bigfoot carcass in the state of Georgia — prison guard Rick Dyer and police officer Matthew Whitton.

Biscardi showed a photo of the tongue and teeth of Bigfoot and an indiscernible photo of another Bigfoot said to be alive and walking away from the camera. That’s it. They released a purported DNA result, although it was uncertain if the DNA info was supposed to be compared to other primates (it certainly couldn’t be compared to other Bigfoot — or is it Bigfeet?).

Audio quality for the press conference was poor; there was no explanation of why the announcement would be made thousands of miles away from Bigfoot’s location (he’s in a freezer, somewhere here in the Atlanta area), but there was an assertion that access to Bigfoot would be very selective.

Biscardi, the professional Bigfoot hunter, did most of the talking. He promised to involve credentialed scientists, and dropped the name of Richard Klein, a Stanford University anthropologist. Dr. Klein was conveniently out of town, even though the press conference was held down the block from Stanford. I’ve left him a message inquiring if he’s really involved with this.

The whole affair had a familiar ring to it:

Nearly six years ago, there was a media frenzy around the reports of the first cloned human. “Eve” was born the day after Christmas, fortuitously appearing during a dependably slow news week. Who unveiled that fantastic development? A cultish group called the Raelians, who believe that space aliens created life on earth, and who said a second cloned baby was on the way. But after a barrage of skeptical questions and a refusal by the Raelians to show us the baby or allow outside inspection (citing respect for privacy — not exactly a logical follow-up step if you’ve just held multiple press conferences), the Raelians disappeared. So did talk of a second baby, and the first baby hasn’t been seen to this day.

The Bigfoot hunters, Biscardi, Dyer, and Whitton, certainly aren’t cultists. Whitton and Dyer seemed like nice Georgia boys. But they’re following a time-honored tradition of hucksterism, for which there’s a voracious public appetite.

Okay, boys. Show us the proof. Let the experts establish the proof, and the stage is yours. Otherwise, put a sock in it, and go hide in the woods. Maybe you’ll grow into a legend.

At 12 noon Friday Pacific Daylight Time, 3 p.m. on the East Coast, renowned Sasquatch seeker Tom Biscardi plans to hold a press conference in Palo Alto, Calif., to divulge photos and DNA samples purportedly pertaining to a dead man-ape found in the Georgia woods.

But even Bigfoot true believers are growing skeptical of Biscardi's claims, especially after seeing the photo of the body, viewable here.

"This body has little to do with Bigfoot and everything to do with a Sasquatch costume that someone developed after watching too many gorilla movies," warns Loren Coleman, who runs the influential Cryptomundo blog devoted to strange and unknown animals. "The teeth that seem to have been placed in the mouth could be my late mother's false teeth."

Matthew Whitton, a Clayton County, Ga., police officer on medical leave after being shot on the job, and Rick Dyer, a former corrections officer, say they found the seven-foot-seven-inch creature in the forests of northern Georgia in July.

"I've had interactions with Tom Biscardi in the past, and based on that history, I would say that anything he is involved in is suspect," Idaho State anthropologist and Bigfoot investigator Jeffrey Meldrum told Scientific American.

As for the Bigfoot body in the freezer, says Meldrum, "it just looks like a costume with some fake guts thrown on top for effect."

An online Halloween-costume store, TheHorrorDome.com, based in Port Washington, N.Y., sells a full-sized Sasquatch suit that strongly resembles the thawed-out corpse, right down to the height.

"It definitely looks like our costume," owner Jerry Parrino, who's been keeping track of the Bigfoot body story, told FOXNews.com.

The Associated Press compiled three different accounts given by Whitton and Dyer about how they found the body.

In one, the animal was shot by a former felon, and the men followed it into the woods. In a second version, they found a "family of Bigfoot" in North Georgia mountains. In the third, the two were hiking and stumbled upon the corpse with open wounds.

Two things stand out about Biscardi's claims: First of all, he's not going to be presenting a body — and in fact claims to not even know where the body is — and secondly, the DNA evidence he's promising won't be accompanied by a "chain of custody" that details where it came from and how it got to the lab.

In other words, all he may have is photos — which don't appear to be too convincing.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Reserve spokesman Tom Mackenzie told the AP his agency isn't taking the claim seriously and won't investigate.

"It's not on endangered species on any list that we've got," he said.

NASA UFO hacker Gary McKinnon was about to be extradited to the US for trial as a terrorist, since he lost his appeal in the House of Lords, but he has now gotten a temporary reprieve. US prosecutors have offered him a 4 year sentence if he pleads guilty, but if he doesn't, they'll try to convict him for the full 70-year sentence. If he's tried as a terrorist, he could even end up in Guantanemo. On a search for covert UFO information, he hacked into US military computer data from 2001-2002, so he may have come across secret information about 911, which may be the reason the US is coming down on him so hard.

In the August 13th edition of the Tech Herald, Steve Ragan reports that McKinnon's lawyers have now taken his case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, which is on vacation at the moment, so his extradition has been postponed until August 28, when the court hearings resume. In the meantime, he can remain in the UK.

Veteran Bigfoot tracker Tom Biscardi said he's examined the body, and that scientists will get their chance soon.

It will only be open to credentialed members of the press. Here are some of the vital statistics on the "Bigfoot" body:

*The creature is seven feet seven inches tall. *It weighs over five hundred pounds. *The creature looks like it is part human and part ape-like.

*It is male. *It has reddish hair and blackish-grey eyes. *It has two arms and two legs, and five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot. *The feet are flat and similar to human feet. *Its footprint is sixteen and three-quarters inches long and five and three-quarters inches wide at the heel. *From the palm of the hand to the tip of the middle finger, its hands are eleven and three-quarters inches long and six and one-quarter inches wide. *The creatures walk upright. (Several of them were sighted on the same day that the body was found.) *The teeth are more human-like than ape-like. *DNA tests are currently being done and the current DNA and photo evidence will be presented at the press conference on Friday, August 15th.

The creature was found by Matthew Whitton (AKA Gary Parker) and Rick Dyer (residents of Georgia) in the woods in northern Georgia. (The exact location is being kept secret to protect the creatures.)

One of the most widespread and controversial creatures of dubious existence is Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, in reference to a hairy, bipedal hominid being. This being is usually described as 8' to 10' tall, sighted in remote wilderness areas of the United States and Canada, the Great Lakes, the Pacific Northwest, and the Rocky Mountains, mainly over the last 300 years. It is said, that this humanoid creature has been seen in the forests of northeastern New England and the southern United States. Contrary to other monsters, this being is not a single specimen, but researchers have found at least a few thousand of them reported in different places during all the time, including nearby military areas.

There is a slight misconceptions between Bigfoot or Sasquatch, and Yeti, who lives in the Himalayas, and the Abominable Snowman, a Tibetan primate-like popularized by the Western press in 1921 after a visit of the reporter Henry Newman to the Himalayas. However, there is a controversy related to Bigfoot, with some researchers and witnesses claiming that this creature can be found in most countries around the world, but known regionally under various names, otherwise, it is believed that creatures like Yeti, are closely related species.

Bigfoot has been sighted throughout the United States, from the 16th Century to present. The first reported sightings were by Native Americans. He was called numerous names by different Indian tribes, 'sasquatch' was only one of over 50 different Indian names given to the creature. This creature looks more like a hairy man than an ape or monkey. It is mostly reported as being between 6 - 8 feet tall, but has been sighted with a smaller female and even offspring, as small as human children. The larger, adult male of the species is rugged, and built very muscular. It's shoulders are wide, and it has very little neck area. It has short brown to black hair covering it's body, with longer hair on the head. Most reports have the creatures eyes glowing or shining red in the dark when reflected by a flashlight or some other light source.

Most folks report no odor when they have encountered bigfoot, but the others that do, have started showing a pattern of a strange anomaly, the creature can project or discharge a scent, at will, not like a skunk, by spraying, but by some other means. People have reported one smell, then suddenly it changes into an entirely different odor. Odors have been described as: rotten flesh, poop, old vomit, out-houses, rotted fish, rotten eggs, or foul and just sickening. Bigfoot seems to make Ape-like grunts and growls, to almost a scream like sound, and others have heard whistles and strange calls.
